We are celebrating the extraordinary legacy of Balmain Association community members, whose 60 years of activism and dedicated archival work have shaped how we remember the Balmain Peninsula’s past. This History Festival, we are opening the doors and inviting the public to connect with our archive.
Sharing the Balmain Watch House archives, this exhibition event will present a treasure trove of historic photographs of Balmain’s residential streets and industrial waterfront, revealing the past houses, shopfronts, workplaces, and community spaces. Expert volunteers and local heritage authors will be telling the stories behind the images, and of their own publications available to purchase on the day.
By collecting and protecting archives, and preserving heritage, we are ensuring that Balmain’s unique identity endures for future generations. Join us and experience how and why the Balmain Association members and local residents are both the sharers and ‘keepers of local stories’.
