Compiled by Stephen W. South, 1996.

Nowadays, the Birch Grove Estate is bounded by Cove and Grove Streets and includes Ferdinand Street, Louisa Road, Numa and Rose Streets, Sardinia Place, The Terrace, and Yerroulbin Street. Also (for completeness!) Buchanan and Deloitte Avenues in Birchgrove Park.

This pamphlet provides a flying start to anyone researching their house history in this area, from the original land grant, known as Whitfield’s Farm upon which in 1810 Lt. John Birch build his house, Birch Grove, to the subsequent subdivisions by Brownrigg (1860) and Reuss (1878).

Complete with cadastral maps and tables citing the original deed of purchase, date, purchaser, and price. It also provides tips on searching land title deeds and Torrens Certificates of Title, which is much easier now that Land Registry Services (LRS) has made them available online via the Historical Land Records Viewer (HLRV). The author worked at the old Land Titles Office (LTO) for 46 years, attaining the position of Senior Title Examiner.
