In a stirling effort, members of the History Sub-Committee of the Balmain Association traced most of the sources of street names in Balmain, Birchgrove, and Rozelle. In doing so they drew on the wide body of research of members, in particular, Peter Reynolds’ search plan Balmain: 1800-1882, The Gilchrist Settlement (see above).

This is the original edition, being something of a milestone in the publications of the Balmain Association. Now in its fourth, revised and updated edition (see below), this first edition is still a sentimental favourite.
